Collaborating with a developer who will be reconfiguring the Delph Lane / A56 junction can enable the simultaneously replacement of a section of defective sub-base on the A56. This offers the following benefits:
•Reduced closure of highway network and associated inconvenience to road users
•Value for money
•Resource / materials efficiency
•Intrusive investigation of defective materials will inform future planned maintenance work
Council could undertake the work separately.
This option would require a separate closure of the A56 incurring traffic management costs and inconvenience on a busy stretch of road. Additional costs would be incurred through the reinstatement of road surfacing and lining, which would have been recently completed by the developer.
